Pre-Season ends with 5-1 Win over Grapevine Faith

The Lady Vikings scored early and often in their final pre-season game of the 2017-2018 season on Monday night against Grapevine Faith.  Maddie Caffey, all the way from the back scored on her first touch of the game heading home a corner in the 2nd minute and just 2 minutes later, freshman Abby Geiser does the same.

"It is important to set the tone and up 2 in first 5 minutes does exactly that," said LVS head coach, Jay Fitzgerald.

Another freshman gets her first high school goal, as Maggie Tepera slotting home a rebound 18 minutes into the game.  "For 15 minutes we played a little slow but we picked it up," said Tepera.

That is exactly right as senior Mikaela Gamboa connect on a bomb from 18 yards into the top corner to put the Lady Vikings up 4-0.

Fitzgerald added, "There were so many good things about this game from our young players, to our veterans, to players coming off the bench and our ability to be opportunistic."

Right off the bat in the second half, Geiser connects for her second goal of the match, her third of the season in just 2 games.

Senior goalkeeper, Avery Boley was solid as she was called into action only 3 times to make saves but in her first varsity action this season she cleaned up her box well and managed the game well.

The Lady Vikings open district play at home on Thursday night at 6pm vs Bishop Dunne.

Friendly Match Monday; District play begins Thursday

The Lady Vikings host Grapevine Faith on Monday night at 5:30pm at Doskocil Stadium in their second friendly of the season in preparation for Thursday's district opener against Bishop Dunne.

The season looks bright for the Lady Vikings as they have solid upperclassmen returners mixed in with a young group that has already made an impact on and off the field.

Head coach, Jay Fitzgerald gives some insight on what to look forward to this week, "We have a very unique group this year.  I look forward to the versatility.  Everyone is familiar with our style of play and understand how it mixes with the individual qualities we have in our program; this is from the JV all the way up to the varsity.  I saw great leadership with the JV last week after a tough scrimmage to a team that is better then we will face all season and with the varsity, they ask good questions and have good awareness of what it will take along the way to accomplish our end goal."

The varsity is the only group on tap this week.  Mother nature dialed up great weather on Monday and Thursday.  Come on out to Doskocil Monday at 5:30pm and our district home opener on Thursday at 6:00pm.

Friendly Kick-Off; District Opener Next Week

With the district opener next week on Thursday at home against Bishop Dunne, the Lady Vikings have scheduled a couple friendlies starting last night.  The Lady Vikings took on a couple local teams on their practice night.  The JV kicked off the evening, followed by the varsity.

"We needed this night for sure, especially the JV with so many new players; I have to say that as the JV friendly went on they really started to figure it out," commented varsity head coach, Jay Fitzgerald.

The JV kick off their first game against Ursuline on November 6th with the varsity opening district play on November 2nd and have another friendly set for next Monday vs Grapevine Faith at home.

With a pair of goals last night, the varsity got a solid win as Maddie Caffey got on the board early in the second half with a perfectly placed free kick off the top corner and freshman, Abby Geiser added the nights second goal as she stormed past the backline and finished off what was a run that started at goal from about 60 yards away.

Head Coach, Jay Fitzgerald on October...
We have seen so much progress this month and it was good to see tons of bright spots with both teams last night in a game where we can kick someone else for a change.

Senior Forward, Mikaela Gamboa on the night...
We were a little bit unsure on how to play and shaky but we got it down and it worked like magic.
