LVS rises in final national rankings

The Lady Vikings Soccer Program last played a game on March 7th in the TAPPS State Final Four, upset by Ursuline, but still continue to rise in the state and across the country. At one time, Top 5 and Top 10 in the state and in the country, respectively, ending up at #5 and #19 as the Final national polls came out today.

With a record of 24-2-5, the Lady Vikings beat #5 Flower Mound and avenged an earlier, double OT loss to, #1 Bishop Lynch. They also tied #22 Westview (San Diego, CA), #24 Coppell, and #33 Byron Nelson. The rankings of the teams mentioned were at the time the match was played. The Lady Vikings also had a pair of regular season victories over current #18, Ursuline, 3-1 and 3-2 to claim the TAPPS 1-5A District title.

In the programs 31 matches this season, LVS was shutout only once and scored 141 goals, led by junior, Texas Tech commit, Gwennie Puente who scored 49 goals (#9 in the country) and junior, Katy Hirschfeld who had 10 goals and a whopping 22 assists (#16 in the country in assists).

The Lady Vikings 141 goals rank them among the Top 10 in the country in scoring. Junior, Jordan Gamboa had 20 of those and Emily Keoughan added 13 more, as a freshman.

A steller defense led by junior, goalkeeper, Piper Head with her 17 shutouts and 0.73 Goals against average was also top in the country. Erin Hippert and Regan Hafer, flanked by mainstays Gabbie Puente and Maddie Cook also helped the Lady Vikings shut opponents down.

Don't forget the rest of the Lady Vikings who gave this program a chance to win each and every night.

"We had youth, experience, depth, and most of all, we had fun; this is a great group of young ladies, " said head coach, Jay Fitzgerald.

The group loses 7 quality seniors which will be hard to replace.

Emma Chandlee, Elizabeth Havenhill, and Elena Guerra will continue their soccer careers in college.

The JV and Varsity teams were crowned 2013-2014 District Champs and look to continue that strong LVS winning tradition into 2015.
